Build Your Emotional Resilience with Coaching
Life is a stage for both beauty and hardship. This era that we live in, with its unique characteristics, bring many challenges into our lives. Challenges are inevitable.
Well, if we cannot avoid challenges, how do we deal with them? How do we build a beautiful and fulfilling life for ourselves through hardship?
Human beings have an essential skill referred to as emotional resilience. Emotional resilience is the ability to cope with challenges, stress, trauma, and other difficulties of life. By utilizing this skill, we can adapt to and overcome challenging life experiences, harmonize our inner desires, and wishes with external demands and expectations; all the while keeping our mind, body and spirit trinity in balance and experiencing the beauty of life without compromising ourselves.
Since emotional challenges are inevitable, emotional resilience will be the skill we will harness to stay strong and heal in the face of these challenges. Today, I will explain how to build your emotional resilience and how you can use coaching to assist you in this process.
The Ability of Emotional Resilience
Emotional resilience is a skill that we all need to utilize and consists of a number of sub-skills. Managing negative emotions, coping with stress, problem solving and building strong relationships are essential components of emotional resilience.
The stronger you are internally, the more flexible you are in the face of challenges, the more emotional resilience you have. You may have experienced a traumatic event or may be working in a difficult work environment. Whatever the case may be, emotional resilience involves the ability to remain calm and focused. It enhances our psychological resilience and well-being in the face of everyday challenges. Emotional resilience is a skill that can be developed. You can reconnect with and nurture it over time.

How Can I Build My Emotional Resilience?
You may look at yourself and feel that you are not emotionally resilient enough. Your emotional resilience may be shaken, or you may feel like you have lost touch with this skill. That is OK!
You can use what I’m about to share here to easily develop your emotional resilience.
Mindfulness of the Here and Now: Mastering your emotional reactions requires you to be aware of them first. This way before you are guided by your emotions, you have a chance to guide them. Meditation and breathing techniques that provides inner peace and inner balance are sure to improve emotional resilience.
Acceptance: Many people find it difficult to accept their experiences and how they feel about them. This denial is one of the biggest barriers that blocks change. Yet the past is the past, and today’s emotions are temporary. Accepting this contributes greatly to the development of emotional resilience.
Rich and Strong Bonds: Life is woven with relationships. Family, friends, and people we trust help us to grip on to life with more strength. Strengthening and enriching the bonds you have with life is an effective way to enhance emotional resilience.
Problem Solving: Failing to identify problems is very likely to lead you to be overwhelmed by them. Developing problem-solving skills and finding effective solutions by setting goals that will free you from the identified problems will help you respond more effectively to challenges.
Flexibility: There are as many uncertainties as there are challenges in life. Life may disrupt plans and require you to change your route towards your goals. Not being flexible in the face of circumstances will lead to more struggles. Flexibility means changing plans and making new ones when necessary, being comfortable with uncertainties, and being perceptive of alternative paths on the way to goals.
Emotional Resilience and Coaching
Emotional resilience is an essential skill to develop in the face of life’s challenges and uncertainties, and coaching plays a key role in developing this skill. Coaching can help you learn how to navigate through challenging situations and teach you how to approach situations.
Coaching aims to unlock your highest potential and contribute to your personal and professional growth. The circumstances we work with in coaching sessions are often multifaceted problems. We use a coaching perspective to understand the issues and make them manageable, which increases the emotional resilience of the individual.
Effects of Coaching on Emotional Resilience
The coaching journey is a path that fully encourages emotional resilience. We can briefly summarize the main elements that form this influence under three headings.
How to Think: Coaching influences the way we think. How we think and the perspective we develop in responding to situations is linked to the way our mind works. During coaching sessions, clients experience this way of multi-angle thinking and practice the coaching perspective. Through powerful questions and constructive feedback, it is possible to understand one’s own perspective as well as the perspectives of others. As a result, life’s challenges and obstacles transform into opportunities for learning and growth.
Realistic Optimism: Realistic optimism means seeing the problem as it is, not perceiving it as a threat or a hardship, but rather seeing it as a situation that needs to be solved and identifying the steps to solve it. It is based on realism and balance while maintaining a positive outlook. All the work we do in coaching sessions has realistic optimism at its core and promotes the establishment of this mindset.
Awareness of Strengths and Resources: Coaching enables internal and external resources to be uncovered and utilized effectively. Rather than playing the role of a victim and constructing a bleak scenario in the face of uncontrollable situations, it focuses on the resources that can be controlled, develops strengths, and focuses on how they can be realized more effectively.
