The French word “coach” is a quite old term. In the first periods of its use, in the 1500s, it was also prevalent in the English language as the meaning of a car, a vehicle that takes individuals from where they are to wherever they want. However, in 1840, it was used for private teachers who helped prepare students for exams at Oxford University, approaching its current meaning. In 1889, when it was observed that physical training was not enough for athletes and that there was a need for mental and spiritual preparation, the people who broke into the field of sports and provided training for their teams started to be called coaches. With his 1974 book “The Game Of Tennis”, W. T. GAYLWEY developed the approach that when athletes perform their physical movements in their minds, it increases their performance and that the power within them is effective in bringing them to success. In this way, the applicability of this technique in all areas of life has been confirmed. In 1988, Dr. Dick BOROUGH expressed his own form of management as coaching. ICF (International Coaching Federation) is a non-profit organization created in 1995 for professional coaching. As an institution that creates programs and competency standards for the development and reliability of the coaching profession, it organizes projects and events, enables you to acquire a credential with accredited coach training programs and professional accreditation. There are three accredited credentials: ACC (Associate Certified Coach) PCC (Professional Certified Coach), MCC (Master Certified Coach).
For the ACC credential, a minimum of 80 hours of training is received, 100 hours of sessions are performed (80 hours are paid), 10 sessions are mentored (average of 20-25 hours), 1 session of audio recording is sent to the ICF. After ICF’s approval, you can take the credential exam. When you pass the exam, you acquire the credential and your credential is valid for 3 years. You continue receiving training for three years; you must demonstrate to the ICF that you have received at least 20 hours of training. The ACC credential is awarded only to the person coaching. For the PCC credential, a minimum of 125 hours of training is taken, 500 hours of sessions (80% of which are paid) are performed, 10 sessions of mentoring are taken, 2 sessions of audio recording are sent to the ICF. After passing the credential exam, the approved person performs his supervision and continues his training by acquiring the credential that is valid for 3 years. The credential of PCC is awarded to the person who coaches, provides mentoring, and is able to provide training. For the MCC credential, 200 hours of coach-specific training, 10 hours of work with qualified mentor coaches, 2500 hours of paid coaching experience with at least 35 clients, audio recording, and written coaching transcripts are required to be submitted to the ICF at the time of application for performance evaluation. The Continuing Coach Education Unit (CCEU) is the unit responsible for participation in Continuing Coach Education (CCE) and the credential renewal process.
Continuing Coach Education (CCE) is defined as an activity that encourages your continuous growth as a coach. CCE is categorized into two: Core Competencies, and Resource Development. Every three years, you are required to accredit your training program for CCE scores to renew your credential, as are thousands of ICF credentialed coaches. For example, a credential renewal criteria are 40 hours of CCE training.
In harmony with the coachee concerned; to motivate him/ her to discover him/ herself, clarify the coachee about the issue he/ she wants to achieve, ensure that he/ she can take personal responsibility for his/ her actions by ensuring that solutions and methods can be determined and developed by him/ her.
As a professional coach, to be careful not to create a perception that will negatively affect the coaching profession, be original by respecting different approaches and studies, comply with the ethical rules of coaching; take responsibility for the documents and records of their practices, to take care of matters of privacy and confidentiality in the interviews with the coachee; not to direct the coachee in the sessions, not to pursue personal interests in the information obtained about the coachee, to respect, not to establish unprofessional relationships, to avoid possible conflicts of interest.

Be careful to work not only for yourself, but for all of humanity, the entire system. Don’t believe anything easily. Pass everything through your own mind filter first and believe it if it feels right to you after evaluating it with wisdom. Do not believe any word right away, just because the person is more knowledgeable and respected than you. Do not think that any phenomenon or information is complete and competent. Remember that what actually happens and what appears to have happened may not always overlap. Keep your field of development and competencies up to date and do not lag behind these efforts against all obstacles.

Making a coaching agreement is revealing the presence of coaching, establishing trust and intimacy with the client, adapting, listening actively, asking the right and powerful questions, raising awareness, setting goals, preparing an action plan, as well as managing development and responsibility.
An agreement covering the coachee and coach, taking into account the ICF code of ethics, is approved by the parties before the coaching session.
The duration of an ideal session is no more than 1 hour. If the coachee came in the session with a state of confusion and needs clarification, this usually happens in the first session, if so, the duration is around 1 hour 15 minutes. In subsequent sessions, it drops to 35 minutes. If the coachee’s decision is clear, if it is clear what he/ she wants to do, this period becomes even shorter.
Depending on coachee’s preference, sessions can be performed at the desired frequency. However, different issues are addressed in each session. Because the coaching session is to draw the necessary road map for the point that the person wants to reach in a single session, take the first action step, and then follow the person in this process. Coaching sessions are not package-formatted processes that involve multiple sessions.

The Holistic Life & Business Coaching Diploma Program (HLBCDP), prepared and developed by MCC Fatih Elibol offers its participants a diploma program consisting of professionally developed compulsory and elective courses, with a total of 174 hours of 9 modules.
