A consultant applies a consulting teaching model, is a solution expert. Coaching, on the other hand, is goal-oriented. It focuses on what you learn from experience, self-discovery, and learning from different sources. Information and solutions are found by you. In coaching, progress is enabled without being given advice and without guidance. A constructive feedback is given. The coach brings you to the moment and takes action with you, allowing you to determine your action steps with a vision from present moment to future. Coach never tells you what to do, he helps you find it. Because the coach cannot know what you are going through, your career, your relationship with your wife, your environment, your family. What Is Coaching History?

The French word “coach” is a quite old term. In the first periods of its use, in the 1500s, it was also prevalent in the English language as the meaning of a car, a vehicle that takes individuals from where they are to wherever they want. However, in 1840, it was used for private teachers who helped prepare students for exams at Oxford University, approaching its current meaning. In 1889, when it was observed that physical training was not enough for athletes and that there was a need for mental and spiritual preparation, the people who broke into the field of sports and provided training for their teams started to be called coaches. With his 1974 book “The Game Of Tennis”, W. T. GAYLWEY developed the approach that when athletes perform their physical movements in their minds, it increases their performance and that the power within them is effective in bringing them to success. In this way, the applicability of this technique in all areas of life has been confirmed. In 1988, Dr. Dick BOROUGH expressed his own form of management as coaching. In the same year, following the definition of coaching made in the article titled “Sigmund Freud Meets Henry Ford” published in Forbes magazine, in the 1990s, coaching has gone beyond the meaning used in sports; it has started to be prevalent in business life in England and America. By the end of 1990, the process of becoming a new profession had begun.

How Did Coaching Start, How Is Its Progress and Growth in the Sector?

With the introduction of the concepts of development and awareness into social life with Werner Erhard, Thomas J. Leonard, and Laura Whitworth in the late 1990s, coaching exceeded its use in sports and took its place as a profession in business life, especially in America and England. It is a profession that can be used in all aspects of life today.
