What if the Cobbler Always Wears the Best Shoes Instead?
If the Cobbler Always Wears the Best Shoes Instead
The ability to do work develops with mastery and expertise in that job. Regardless of the field, what is essential in a service is to find a way to meet the customer’s needs. All that needs to be done is to reach information and skills in the field that will be served. In both business and social life, people often find remedies for others, provide assistance and play an effective role in making their lives easier. Still, when it comes to themselves, they find it difficult to be successful to the same degree.
Because at the critical point, a learned reality inspired the proverb “The cobbler always wears the worst shoes” is accepted as a society. The point that a cobbler is skillful in repairing a shoe but is not successful in providing shoes for himself and in his customer’s business has become synonymous with the point that individuals cannot be successful in improving their living conditions and solving their problems.
From another point of view, let’s observe cobblers who make custom shoes. The client comes up with an image in his mind and asks the cobbler to design it. For the customer to correctly describe the image he/ she envisions to the cobbler and the cobbler to make the shoe, he/ she must listen and understand the customer correctly. It is at this point that the need for effective communication arises.
Our cobbler questions whether the image in the customer’s mind is really a need and a feasible design that he/ she will be happy with and clarifies the situation. After our master cobbler understands the shoe that the customer wants to design, the making process begins. The cobbler determines which materials to use, which machines and stitch types to choose, what is in the shop, what to buy, how long he/ she can finish it, and all the steps until the shoes are delivered. He/ she knows how to find solutions for possible mishaps. The cobbler makes an agreement with the customer, and when the delivery day comes, the shoe designed by the customer is his.
Now, please look at yourself from a point where you are both the cobbler and the customer. You have many areas you have mastered with you have been through, your achievements, even with your failures, and all the experience you have gained. You have a dream you want to achieve, an issue you want to resolve, or a life you want to rebuild, renew and improve. At this point, COACHING comes into play. Because while being in touch with yourself, you will try to understand what you need.
You have a beginning to make on your right mind and balanced mood, determine and become clear on what you want, whether you need it and whether it will make you happy, how this process will affect you and everyone around you, and maintain objectivity. With your mind made by your feelings and thoughts, you have a process that will reflect on your actions, which will continue to the point you want to reach. It is of particular importance to create a real change, develop awareness, determine the fastest steps necessary, take action, and continue with the commitments you will make to yourself.
In coaching, your coach is the inner voice in your internal communication. It is effective in ensuring the proper communication between the cobbler and the customer. He/ she is the person who walks beside you on your journey you set out from yourself to yourself again. In coaching, your coach does not direct you; he/ she does not give you ideas and never judges or criticizes you. In coaching, a coach is a person who asks powerful questions that will make you realize your feelings that is your invisible need. Having seen that you are already whole and complete with your answers to the right questions, you will now be clear about the relevant situation. When you see where you want to be, you will move on to the next stage of creating your strategy with strong self-confidence. You will be able to plough your own furrow again with your own answers to coaching questions.
After the part you have read so far, let me be your inner voice, and let’s concretize it all together.
What was the most powerful situation in which you moved from where you were to a further point on any subject?
You activated a system that was stationary inside. What was the moment that changed the situation?
What made it a necessity to change that situation?
Now think of that triggering emotion that activates the system that sets you in motion. Check in with how you feel.
What made it possible for the situation which you changed to move forward to be permanent? You accomplished this story!
Now, let’s arrive today together. Just notice the strength of the insight that you gained with these few questions.
What is that situation where you know what to do but cannot take action?
This space you will hold for yourself before you know how to do it will give you much stronger and more real confidence. Your most powerful and driving force is your mental strength. Emotional and mental preparation gives you the ability to manage your conditions at any moment, and this is just the beginning. With the power that comes alive within you, all the past situations will be recreated in a higher form.
You have begun to examine the parts of you that you have buried deep in shame, guilt, anger, regret, or pain that you have avoided in the past. Let go of all the labels on how all these should feel. You are a CONSCIOUS being with a physical body, not just a physical body with consciousness. As you realize the forces that already exist within you, you will understand what you still consider real in your consciousness. Because you will find that you are the one who created that situation, and you always have the power to change it.
“Coaching accepts the past as an experience and brings you to the present moment first so that you can create action steps that will move you from the moment you are present to the point you want to move forward.“
Coaching is power; it’s a process. Being able to coach yourself is a real skill. Before coaching others, the person first coaches himself/ herself with all the training he/ she receives. Therefore, it is essential for a certified coach who progresses to ensure professional development and a Coach applicant who is on their way of credentialing to evaluate and develop the knowledge and skills of mentorship and coaching and be successful in the ICF coaching performance evaluation process. It’s the most valuable investment a person makes in themselves.
When we look at the most fundamental benefit that coaching can provide, as you have noticed, THE COBBLER ALWAYS WEARS THE BEST SHOES, and in fact, THEY ARE COBBLER’S OWN DESIGN. As long as he/ she can see him/ herself objectively as he/she does someone else and ask for effective internal communication with the right coaching questions, then downhill all the way.
