The Magical Power of Feedback

As an MCC who has helped thousands of people realize their dreams, I have witnessed throughout my career the profound impact of well-delivered feedback. The feedback I provide to my clients goes beyond merely reflecting on their behavior or offering guidance in various situations. It has become an integral part of their personal growth and transformation journeys.

I’ve always viewed giving feedback as an art form, much like the skill of effective listening. I recognize that without proper and effective listening, one cannot provide meaningful feedback. Therefore, I can confidently say that effective feedback is not only a cornerstone of a coach’s success but also a catalyst for significant positive change and transformation in the life of the recipient.

In this blog post, I will explore the magical power of feedback. I will demonstrate how to provide effective feedback and explain its transformative potential. If you’re ready, let’s begin!

The Importance of Feedback

I place great value on feedback because it is crucial for personal and professional development. Whether in personal, professional, or educational settings, feedback provides invaluable insights into one’s strengths and areas for improvement. This information leads to the enhancement of personal skills and the refinement of processes and outcomes.

It’s important to note that feedback must be constructive to be effective. Only when feedback is constructive does it foster continuous learning, promote development by raising awareness, and ensure open communication, thereby building trusting relationships. In the workplace, it enables individuals to understand and meet expectations, which in turn improves performance, motivation, and collaboration.

Feedback is a catalyst for progress. It empowers individuals, groups, and organizations to undergo positive transformation and achieve their goals.

The Purpose of Feedback

Providing feedback in coaching significantly contributes to clients’ development processes. It’s crucial to remember that feedback isn’t solely about pointing out mistakes or deficiencies. In fact, the primary purpose of feedback is not to highlight errors. Instead, its main objective is to reveal an individual’s potential, reinforce their strengths, and facilitate self-improvement.

Do you know what I prioritize most when giving feedback? I recognize that each of my clients is unique, with different needs and goals. Therefore, when providing feedback, I always aim to boost my client’s self-confidence. As a result, my clients, with increased motivation, can find their own direction with more accurate and confident steps. While giving feedback, I make sure to consider their perspective, because only by listening effectively and understanding their point of view can I establish the most beneficial communication with them.

When and How to Give Feedback

Timing is crucial when it comes to feedback. You can’t provide feedback at every moment; it must be given at the right time to be effective. Feedback is most impactful when the recipient is most open to accepting it. During my coaching sessions, I carefully observe and identify moments when the other person is most receptive. Sometimes this occurs after a moment of success, other times after a challenging situation.

The method of delivering feedback is equally important. Before providing feedback, some preparation is necessary. This preparation involves considering previous sessions with the person and past experiences. You need to understand the person’s current situation, be aware of their history, and assess how the feedback will affect them. By taking into account these multiple perspectives, I am able to offer structured and personalized feedback.

Positive Feedback Nurtures

I am a person who has a positive outlook on life. Positivity enhances one’s motivation towards life, and positive feedback supports one’s motivation to move forward. Reminding others of their strengths and achievements strengthens the foundation for their future successes.

It’s important to note that positive feedback is not empty praise. It’s not sufficient or effective to simply state that a person is good or strong; it’s necessary to explain why they are good and strong based on concrete behaviors and specific areas. Only then can the individual truly understand what they are doing well.

Constructive Criticism Contributes

Naturally, feedback can’t always be solely positive. Constructive criticism also plays a crucial role in client development. However, this aspect requires the utmost care when delivering feedback. Constructive criticism should not be given merely for the sake of criticism; instead, it should offer the recipient an opportunity for growth.

When providing feedback, it’s important to first emphasize the strengths of the subject before addressing areas for improvement, and to do so with kindness. This approach allows the recipient to hear about their successes while also learning about areas for growth, creating a balance between pros and cons.

Personalized Feedback

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I recognize that each of my clients, each person I interact with, is unique. I tailor my feedback to account for these differences. This is the essence of personalized feedback. It should be delivered in an appropriate manner, considering the individual’s personality, work style, and goals. This approach makes the feedback more effective and easier to understand.

Personalized feedback is also adapted to the communication style and needs of the recipient. Some individuals prefer more direct feedback, while others benefit from a gentler approach. When you provide feedback that aligns with a person’s personality and preferences, you’ll notice how it supports their development process.

Concrete Examples

I’ve already mentioned that feedback should be based on specific events and behaviors. I’d like to emphasize this point again under a separate heading. Concrete examples are crucial when giving feedback. They enable the recipient to understand your feedback clearly and put it into practice, either to improve their behavior or to consciously repeat positive actions in the future.

Follow-up on Feedback

Feedback is not a one-time process. After providing feedback to someone, it’s crucial to monitor its impact and, if necessary, support them in implementing it. This approach allows for accurate and effective tracking of the development process, helping the recipient understand whether they’re on the right path in their growth. It also enables them to take necessary interim steps to stay on course when needed.

Don’t Hesitate to Give Feedback!

People, even those in the coaching profession, sometimes hesitate to give feedback. The primary reason behind this is often the fear of receiving a negative reaction. However, feedback is an indispensable part of both coaching processes and solid relationships. When delivered appropriately, it significantly contributes to the development of both the individual and the relationship.

Here’s some advice for you:

Don’t be afraid to give feedback.

Be honest and open when providing feedback.

Balance your feedback with empathy and understanding.

Remember that the recipient is a human being too.

And remember, giving feedback is one of the most important skills for a human being. Feedback is a development tool that supports growth. It’s extremely effective in bringing out the highest version of a person’s potential. With the strategies I’ve shared in this article, you can put the feedback process into practice, give more effective feedback, build stronger relationships, and watch people reach their potential step by step.

The Touch that Unlocks the Power of Teams: Coaching

The Touch that Unlocks the Power of Teams: Coaching In today’s fast-paced and competitive business environment, organizations need their teams to work together effectively and collaboratively to achieve success. Companies are increasingly recognizing the importance of having high-performing teams that are innovative, problem-solving, adaptable, and highly productive. This means that they prefer to have people who are skilled at working in teams and can contribute to the team’s performance rather than just being individually innovative, problem-solving, adaptable, and high performing. This is where team performance, or group coaching, comes in.
Coaching is one of the most powerful tools for improving team performance. Just as it can help individuals unlock their full potential, it can also help teams reach their full potential. Coaching creates opportunities for development while maximizing collective success.

In this article, I will discuss how coaching benefits teams and enhances team performance, in other words, team coaching.

What is the Difference Between a Group and a Team?

Before moving on to team coaching, we need to discuss the difference between a “group” and a “team.” When you bring people together, as long as there is more than one person, you get a group. People travelling by metro, moviegoers at a cinema, diners at a restaurant – these are all examples of groups. Individuals within these groups come together for various reasons. Metro passengers are united by their shared destination. The cinema group has gathered to watch a film. Diners at the same restaurant share the desire to savor the culinary delights offered. However, the concept of a team is different from that of a group.

Teams also have a common goal. However, a team is a community of individuals who have come together to work towards a goal. These individuals are mutually dependent on each other alongside their common goal. They need to collaborate with each other to achieve success as a result of their efforts. In addition to supporting each other, they benefit from each other’s areas of expertise and skills.

What Are the Characteristics of a Good Team?

Teams are more structured communities. A good team consists of individuals who distinguish themselves from the group through certain characteristics but also can act together and work in harmony. There are some attributes that enable this unity and harmonious action. Let’s understand these characteristics.

Shared goals: All members of a team share a common goal. The success of the team depends on achieving this goal. All actions and efforts of the team are directed towards realizing this shared objective.

Mutual dependence: The contribution of each individual of the team is indispensable. Team members cannot achieve the team’s goal on their own. In this sense, team members are mutually dependent on each other, trusting each other and benefiting from each other’s expertise and skills.

Distribution of roles and responsibilities: The roles and responsibilities of individuals in a good team are clear. Each person has specific tasks and an area of expertise they contribute with. This role distribution is based on the strengths, skills, and areas of expertise of the individuals.

Performance accountability: A team exists to work together towards a specific goal. Therefore, each member of the team is accountable to each other for the overall performance of the team. All members contribute their individual efforts with this sense of responsibility, adhering to the principle of accountability.

Communication and collaboration: There can be no team success without effective communication. Every team member must be able to openly share their knowledge and ideas. Clear feedback within the team is crucial for resolving problems and making decisions together. Mutual support and collaboration among team members foster encouragement, trust, friendship, and a sense of belonging within the team.

What is Team Management?

Team management involves organizing and overseeing individuals who collaborate to achieve a specific goal efficiently.

A good team manager ensures that all members understand the team’s collective objective. They assign roles and responsibilities based on each member’s strengths, set SMART goals, communicate them clearly, create an environment that fosters communication, resolve conflicts, monitor progress, and help maintain productivity.

Effective team management requires skills such as leadership, communication, listening, empathy, asking insightful questions, and delegation. In well-managed teams, each member feels valued and is motivated to contribute their best within their area of responsibility to the team’s success.

Well-managed teams can accomplish far more collectively than what individuals could achieve on their own.

How Coaching Enhances Team Performance?

Coaching is a highly effective approach to elevate team performance and foster high-performing teams. Team coaching focuses on unlocking the collective potential of teams, enabling them to achieve extraordinary results. The ultimate goal is to bring out the best version of teams, propelling them towards greater heights. Coaching empowers teams to seize opportunities for development, maximizing the performance of each team member, enabling the team to deliver a performance greater than the sum of its individual parts.

Teams reap a multitude of benefits from team coaching. Let’s delve into some of these key gains:

Clarity: For team members aligned towards a common goal, areas of responsibility might overlap and blur. Coaching facilitates the establishment of clear goals and well-defined individual roles for team members. This enables teams to move forward with clarity towards their collective objectives, better visualize their individual contributions to the team, and consequently, derive higher motivation to be successful together.

Communication and trust: Effective communication and trust among team members form the bedrock of teams, much like in life. Coaching plays an effective role in propelling teams along the path to effective communication. By focusing on open communication, active listening, questioning, conflict management, feedback reception and delivery, mutual support, understanding each other’s vulnerabilities, and mutual respect, coaching fosters collaboration and trust among team members and nurtures synergies between individuals.

Leadership skills: Coaching cultivates empathy, communication, initiative-taking, and accountability skills among team members. Individuals gain the ability to inspire each other and steer fellow team members towards positive change as they are navigating their personal performance.

Resilience: Conflicts are inevitable within teams. Coaching equips teams with the necessary skills to manage conflicts effectively. It instills the approach of viewing conflicts not as roadblocks but as opportunities for growth. This fosters a continuous improvement mindset and bolsters team resilience in the face of challenges.

Continuous development: The growth of individuals within a team reflects the team’s growth. Coaching plays a pivotal role in driving continuous exploration, forward movement, and enabling individuals to maximize their potential. By establishing clear individual and team development areas, setting appropriate goals for these areas, and tracking progress, coaching paves the way for continuous development.

Coaching enhances team performance. A team’s potential is far greater than the sum of its individual members’ performances. Coaching helps to unlock the highest potential of the whole.

How Can I Coach My Team?

If you have a team and you want it to use its full potential in the best way possible, you can contribute to the development of your team members and ensure they move towards the highest achievements by coaching your team.

Team coaching includes both individual coaching sessions with team members and group coaching sessions with the entire team.

In individual coaching sessions, the potential of each team member is assessed, and development areas are identified based on this potential. Goals and action plans supporting these areas are created. Afterwards, proper follow-up, feedback, and guidance maintain motivation and development.

In group coaching sessions, the team is guided to address common goals, understand the current situation, and accurately evaluate the path to achieving these goals. A secure and supportive environment is established, allowing team members to share their experiences, ideas, and concerns comfortably. This enhances mutual understanding, recognition of each other’s needs, and communication. It strengthens trust and harmony within the team. The team’s strengths are leveraged, and development opportunities are assessed. Team goals are set accordingly, progress is monitored, feedback is provided, and successes are celebrated.

The World Today is a World of Teams

Team coaching helps teams reach their highest potential by combining individual coaching with group coaching. A good coach should be able to provide team coaching because today’s world is a world of teams. Achieving success depends on teams working harmoniously both within themselves and with each other.

If you are interested in improving in this area, you can benefit from my team coaching training sessions and experience the positive impact of ELB coaching on your team’s performance.

Holistic Being – Humans are miraculous beings with amazing abilities. Their miraculous nature stems from their capacity to both create and live. It is in their nature to search for meaning; human beings are nourished by their desire to explore, to learn and to understand their inner world. And how they understand and interpret the happenings of their lives is also how they create and live. From this point of view, every step in our lives, our inner experiences, and the challenges we face in our relationships carry great potential.

In my second book, Holistic Being, I invite you on a journey deeper and further in the footsteps of my first book, The Future Begins Today, to unlock our potential and bring about real transformation. I invite you to your Holistic Being!

A complete transformation in your personal development journey

The concept of holistic existence considers the human beings as a whole with their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects. It aims to maximize individual well-being and potential. One who experiences holistic existence is not only physically healthy, but also emotionally, mentally, and spiritually healthy. They have brought emotional balance to their life, attained mental clarity, and achieved harmony in existence.

As I was writing my second book, I aimed to provide a holistic life experience for those who want to experience their holistic existence and live their potential at the highest level. I wanted us to go a little further and a little deeper together, because it is not enough to know ourselves and our environment, we need to understand our position within the environment we exist in. Finding inner balance is not possible without understanding how external factors work. Realizing our highest potential is not possible without being aware of our own beliefs, decisions, and perspectives, without raising the subconscious to the conscious.

Once you understand the anatomy of your relationships, you can transform them. With Holistic Being, I bring a coaching perspective to the relationship you have with yourself, your environment and life, and I explain the psychological theories behind the ELB method in a direct and comprehensible way.

A guide packed with powerful tools

With Holistic Being, I once again aim to be the inner voice of my readers. As a Master Certified Coach, I provide companionship to my readers. I benefit from Transactional Analysis and Gestalt approaches. I blend my philosophy with my ELB method and offer these to those who need them. For in order to reach one’s highest potential, all the relationships a person has with life must be enriched and strengthened. This is the only way to experience the here and now and achieve happiness.

Deep change and growth in life and relationships

People wish to feel complete in their lives, but their habits and fears prevent them from changing and achieving this state of wholeness. Transactional Analysis, which I discuss in detail in my book, helps us understand our psychology on this journey and reunites us with our essence.

Human beings are social beings and rely on social contact. Contact can be both physical and psychological. This reliance stems from the need for acceptance and approval. It is an element that enables us to survive. Lacking contact makes us feel lonely and can lead to an internal war. Transactional Analysis analyzes contacts and relationships between people. It is based on accepting others as they are and cherishing them for who they are. It recognizes that everyone is valuable just for being human, regardless of their behavior. It reminds us that we are adequate and harmonious in all our forms.

Through Transactional Analysis, we gain the ability to analyze our relationships and behaviors. We focus on the future without being stuck in the past. By realizing the decisions we have made in the past and how these decisions affected our lives, we can make conscious decisions and redirect our lives towards our desired path. We can create a transformation, a permanent change in our lives.

Transactional Analysis helps us understand how the human mind works and see the reasons behind our behavior. We can see TA principles even in simple and straightforward examples extracted from everyday life. So, once you read this book, you will immediately start applying the insights you gain through TA.

Transactional Analysis helps understand an individual’s way of thinking, feelings and the reasons for their behavior and it facilitates a deep understanding of interrelationships.

The narrative of life is one of the important concepts in this profound understanding. By recognizing and, where necessary, changing your life narrative, you can step out of the ordinary and set a new goal for yourself. Yes, you can redesign your life. Everyone has the ability to make changes in their lives, and these changes can happen independently of other people. We all live the story we write.

The Holistic Now

It is important to focus on the present, not to carry the burden of the past and not to worry about the future as you re-create and live your life. This is one of the basic principles of the Gestalt approach. In this book, I explain the Gestalt approach in detail.

This approach takes a holistic view of human experience and behavior, highlighting the here and now. It emphasizes the present moment over the past and focuses on present emotions over past feelings.

Unfulfilled circumstances of the past might influence the present of people. However, constantly being concerned with unfinished or incomplete things from the past affects one’s present life. In dealing with these situations, it is important to embrace the past and focus on the present moment. Starting the future from today helps resolve past shortcomings.

You may have plans for the future, a desire to achieve success, to travel or many other goals. And it is normal if you have not yet taken any steps towards them. Sometimes there may be obstacles in the way of what you want to achieve in life, or you may not yet have the time or resources. It is important to remember to live the moment while remaining your focus on the future. Appreciating where you are now and the experiences you are having is important for planning the future.

The Gestalt approach helps people avoid being squeezed between the past and the future and live in the present moment. Becoming aware of the present moment, expressing your feelings and thoughts are important steps that can be achieved through Gestalt approach. Gestalt approach can help you can become self-aware and regain control of your life. This is an essential step towards self-realization and a more fulfilling life.

The Gestalt approach emphasizes the balance and harmony within by treating a human being holistically. This approach argues that human beings are more than their individual pieces and that each piece complements the other, forming a holistic entity.

Our mind does not like unfinished things or uncertainties. We always have a desire to complete incompletes and remove ambiguity. Unfinished things, such as past relationships, clatter inside us and we find it difficult to recognize them. The Gestalt approach helps to overcome such unfinished matters and make our lives a more meaningful whole.

Gestalt emphasizes that human beings are constantly making choices in every aspect of their lives and that these choices shape their lives. Understanding these choices and creating meaningful wholes in our lives can only be possible if we understand our needs and act accordingly. Throughout this book, I guide you through this process with the help of my experiences gained from the Gestalt approach.

We are One with the Whole, Alone with Ourselves

There is an essence in life that connects us all. We dissolve from this essence and exist in love. The more we can strengthen and enrich our connections, the more we fulfill our potential. With Holistic Being, I want you to feel our unity and wholeness of the universe. Although I use psychological theories on which my ELB method is based, I try to help you use this approach in your daily life by sharing it in everyday language and avoiding academic terms. I am here to help you understand your needs and fulfill them in meaningful ways.

Acquire, read, and study Holistic Being.

Let go of what you know and open yourself to new information and experiences with an open mind. My approach will make it easier for you to focus on the areas in your life where you want to make changes. Get ready to experience the reality of yourself, oneness and love and start taking steps to build strong and rich connections in your life. If you want to experience deep change and growth in your life, benefit from my words.

Let’s take a step together to change your life!

If you are in the business world, you have probably heard of the concept of SWOT analysis. Like many others, you may even have set new business goals with this analysis. But have you ever tried to extend this analysis out of your work life?

I notice that people develop habits like not using the concepts and techniques that are generally used in the workplace in daily life, and not applying the practices of daily life to work life. People split their lives into work and private life and then complain that they cannot integrate the two. However, the coaching approach approaches the human being as a whole. Because life is a whole. I always consider my clients and mentees as whole and complete, as well. I encourage them to adopt a holistic view of their own lives.

In this blog post, I will guide you to take a holistic look at your own life and personalize the SWOT so that you can use it to renew your life.

What is SWOT?

SWOT analysis is acronym for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. In other words, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats are the components of SWOT analysis.

SWOT analysis is a strategic planning tool that allows organizations to identify their strengths and weaknesses, discover the opportunities in the professional world; develop new tactics against threats from competitors or market forces while setting business goals in professional life.

SWOT analysis is extremely effective. It enables an internal assessment by identifying strengths and weaknesses on the one hand, and an external assessment by looking at opportunities and threats on the other. Each point that emerges from this analysis is first identified and then discussed and evaluated. This provides institutions and organizations with a foresight into the future in their businesses, while at the same time facilitating decision-making processes and enabling more accurate decisions to be made.

Wouldn’t you like to gain insight into your own life, make easier and better decisions for yourself? Have you ever considered how different your life would be if you understood your own inner strengths and weaknesses, if you were aware of the opportunities and threats of the outside world?

I call a holistic SWOT analysis of an individual a “personal situation analysis” or “personal SWOT”. Now come, let’s see how you do it.

What is a personal SWOT?

Personal SWOT treats you as a holistic being with all areas of your life. What kind of life do you live, what kind of relationships do you cultivate in this life, how are your relationships with your family and friends, where do you have difficulties, what do you experience in your private and professional life, what do you feel, in which areas do you feel behind, in which areas do you experience constant failures, which trait do you admire yourself for the most, how do your friends describe you? Your personal SWOT analysis is a very useful tool to help you find answers to these and many other questions, to give you the inner strength you need to build the rest of your life, and to help you identify the effects of external factors you cannot avoid.

Strengths: Strengths are the qualities that you like about yourself, that others like about you, that you are most admired for, that you like about yourself whether others know it or not. You may have very strong mathematical skills, you may be a good cook, you may have a talent for imitation, you may be able to simplify things and make them understandable to everyone, you may be a good designer, you may have strong visual skills, you may be a good listener, you may know how to code, you may have a lot of money, you may have developed the ability to write, or you may speak more than one language very well. These are your treasures, the parts of you that are inherent or ingrained in you over time, the qualities that you would be happy to have with you for the rest of your life…

Weaknesses: I don’t really like to use the term “weaknesses”. Instead, “areas for improvement” makes much better sense. Because in everything there is a way forward. A better tomorrow than today is possible. What you need to improve is what you don’t like, what makes you feel like a failure and a stumbling block, what hinders or strains your relationships with others, what gets in the way of progress, what people around you complain about.

To find your strengths and weaknesses, you can get in touch with people who know you well and seek their opinions. Because sometimes an outside eye can tell you more about yourself, can make you realize with clarity what you find difficult to admit to yourself.

Opportunities: Opportunities in your life are situations on your life path that are not yet in your hands, but that are possible, that may come your way or that may be useful to you depending on the course of events. An open higher position in your field, a new association, a new member, a new person in your life, trends and changes in the country and the world, areas of little interest, new ideas are all areas of opportunity.

Threats: Situations, people and circumstances can be threats in one’s life. Threats are things that could derail you, cause you to stumble along the way, or keep you from moving forward. Someone who makes things difficult for you at work, the economic situation of the country or the world, the climate crisis, your competitors, people who stand in the way of your progress can be or become a threat to you.

Look at your life holistically

When doing your personal SWOT, you should write down what you see in your life for each area. What you need to pay attention to here is that your strengths and areas for improvement, as well as your opportunities and threats, cover all areas of your life. You can do smaller customized personal SWOT analyses for specific topics if you want, but the bigger you think, the clearer you will be able to articulate your life vision. Furthermore, when you look at yourself holistically, it is possible to realize that your strengths in certain areas can be useful in other areas and will carry you to your goal.

Your personal SWOT will guide you in your personal development and progress, in making your life the way you envision it, when you need to make decisions about your life.

Before I forget, you should remember to update your personal SWOT periodically. Because as life progresses, both you, what you have achieved and your environment will change.

How do I adapt personal SWOT to my life?

Our main goal in life is to build a fulfilling life for ourselves. A fulfilled life is possible when we are able to experience our potential and life in all its aspects. Small goals and small steps on the road to a fulfilled life lead to big achievements.

You can use your personal SWOT to move towards the fulfilled life that will become your greatest achievement in life.

Check your SWOT:

Do your career goals match your personality?

Are there any weaknesses you need to work on for your career goals?

Are your career goals doomed to crumble under a major threat?

What is the best opportunity for your career goals?

Which areas do you need to focus on to unlock your potential?

Which of your strengths have you never used?

Which of your strengths do you enjoy using?

Which of your characteristics match the important areas of your life that are waiting for you to make a decision?

Which of your relationships support the direction you want to go?

Which of your relationships are hurting you?

Which situations are hindering you in the direction you want to go?

These questions could be multiplied. You should conduct your personal SWOT as extensively and honestly as possible so that you can find out what your priorities are, what you want to do and what you need to do to achieve them in a clear manner.

Personal SWOT – as I mentioned before – can also be done in more detail for specific topics. You have to remember that SWOT is a flexible, evolving and changing construct. Just like you and life…

SWOT will enable you to better analyze your current situation, to consider your own potential when making decisions, to choose goals that are compatible with your goals, and to understand whether the offers or opportunities that come your way are in alignment with you. SWOT will help you identify areas for improvement more clearly. You will better analyze the areas you are going to work on. You will be able to evaluate yourself better and build on your strengths. You will be prepared for threats from the outside world. You will be able to adapt yourself to the changing world. You will be able to ensure that the negativity you cannot avoid affects you as little as possible. As you look at your SWOTs over time, you will see how far you have come.

The path to a fulfilled life is to take a fresh look at your life. And the first step is a good SWOT analysis…

You can seek the support of a coach in doing your SWOT and setting your life goals. And if you want to work with me, you can contact me to assist you find your way to a fulfilling life.

We are all walking our own life path. All of us have wishes, desires, dreams, aspirations. Life is a path and on this path, at times we stumble on stones, other times the path just flows by.

What about you? Do you stumble on stones in the way of life, or do you have stones that guide you? Do you place the stones in your path to observe where you came from and where you are going? Or are the stones scattered in a random fashion and you are stumbling and struggling to move forward?

Regardless of how you move forward, I am sure you will find significant points regarding yourself in this blog post. In this post, I will focus on how you can achieve better progress on your life path and how the steps you take can guide you towards your vision. I will do that by introducing you to the method of “effective and SMART goal setting”, which I have just mentioned with the metaphor of stones.

As we journey towards the best version of ourselves,

We take on responsibilities in life in different areas. These are the responsibilities we take towards our family, our circle, our work and our friends, and of course, the responsibility we have towards ourselves, which I have not overlooked but saved for last, is one of our most crucial responsibilities in life.

Our responsibility towards ourselves is to fulfill the best of our potential, to bask in the highest version of the miracles that the universe and our existence in it can bestow upon us.

Progressing to our highest potential starts with setting a path for ourselves that is in line with our life purpose and walking that path. It starts today. To succeed in this progress, you first need to define your life purpose accurately and set the right goals that will lead you to that purpose.

What are goals for?

There are many rewards to be reaped from moving forward with goals in life. Goals will determine how you navigate your way to your destination. The goals also enable you to see how far you have journeyed, how you are progressing, where you are stumbling, and to better assess your current situation. Goals are a great use of your time. They enable you to move towards your vision without losing your direction. They provide you with a long-term framework to achieve your vision.

Goals are the stepping stones the individual sets for him/ herself to realize the best of their potential. They define the points of focus for the individual. They supply the motivation to keep them on track and to fulfill their vision.

If we had no goals, we could be throwing our time and energy away down the drain. We would then complain about the time that flew by, and with no energy to spare, we would have to give up on our dreams. Perhaps you have a dream that you cannot achieve, either because of a lack of goals or because of wrong goals? Come on, keep reading. And starting today, let’s witness you reaching that dream in the way that is right for you.

How are you going to set your goals?

In today’s world, where things are rapidly changing, there is a constant bombardment of stimuli and information, perhaps you, too, are disoriented and want to be well in all areas while aspiring to reach the best version of yourself. Who knows, maybe you already know what your actual dream is and what the ultimate version of you looks like, but today you have things to do and you prioritize them over every wish and every desire because of different obligations.

Yes, there are so many areas around, so many things you would like to pursue, therefore there are so many goals. Unless you live your days differently from the rest of humanity, you have 24 hours every day, an average of 6-8 hours of sleep and limited energy. Do you think it’s possible to do everything in life in the best way when you have 24 hours a day and limited energy?

You can experience the best version of yourself, but unfortunately, it is not possible to do everything in life best. I may be a MCC master coach, a very good mentor or a successful entrepreneur, but I am not a very good singer. Some of my skills are okay, but some of them stand out more than others, in some areas I may be unskilled. The version of myself that I lead as a master of life is the best version of myself, not a version in which I do everything best – that would not be possible – but a version in which I make the best use of my own qualities to the fullest.

As you can tell, as you move towards the best version of yourself and set your goals in this direction, you should first get to know yourself quite well, identify your life purpose, i.e. your vision, and prioritize the goals that serve this vision the most among the goals aligned with it.

Advantages of clarifying your prioritized goals

The right and clear goals are the key to a better quality of life. When you prioritize and set your goals in the right way, you can walk more confidently on the path of life. You can also provide mentoring and leadership to those who want to walk in your footsteps, and inspire those who are striving for the same goal.

Moving forward with the right and clear goals ensures success in your life, your circle, your work and social life. It will instill self-confidence in you. You will acquire reputation in your life. And as you walk your path, you will welcome new opportunities.

How can I set more effective and smart goals?

Up to this point I have shared with you the numerous benefits of goals. But to reap these benefits, you need to set effective and precise goals. I will walk you through the criteria for setting effective goals, but first I would like to highlight some things you should consider.

First, you may need to start by identifying the places you would like to be aligned with your vision in your living spaces.

You will need to prioritize your potential goals in the right way. The goals that will provide the greatest added value to your life and vision, the goals that will bring value to your life should be your first priority.

All the goals you set in the respective areas should lead you to your vision.

Your goals should not contradict, challenge or hinder each other. All your goals should be facing in the same direction, expressing a unity.

For some of your goals you may also require support from other sources, and you should take this into account when setting your goals.

You can set your goals on a daily, weekly and yearly basis.

You will always have short-term immediate goals that need to be accomplished, but you have to make sure that they don’t distract you from the long-term vision.

You should also recognize the fact that these goals can change.

You may sometimes give up on some goals.

You will always have goals in life and your goals will always change. By walking this path of dedication, you will continue to experience the best version of yourself.

SMART Goals

As I mentioned in my book The Future Starts Today, you need to frame your goals so vividly and clearly that you can feel them with your senses. You have to lay them out in such a way that when they happen, what you will see, what you will hear, what you will feel, what you will experience will come alive in all your senses. Choose to frame your goals in positive sentences so that all the positive possibilities of life fall into your path. And have goals that are written down; write them down so that you can observe what you have achieved and what you have not achieved, and so that you can make your own assessment objectively.

When setting effective goals, you need to make sure they are SMART. SMART represents the 5 key criteria for an effective goal.

In this context, it is used as a representation of “smart targets”.

So what do you think a “smart target” might look like?

A smart goal should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely.

S – SPECIFIC

M – MEASURABLE

A – ACHIEVABLE

R – REALISTIC

T – TIMELY

According to these criteria, a SMART goal is: specific, in that it tells you what to do; measurable, in that you can assess whether the goal has been achieved after you have completed it; achievable, in that you are likely to achieve it within the given timeframe and in line with your resources and competencies; realistic, in that it can be rationalized in terms of your competencies, time and available capabilities; timely, in that you can achieve it within a given timeframe.

You can apply the SMART criteria from the smallest goal to the biggest vision goal that defines your life purpose.

Let me show you an example from everyday life. Let’s say you are exhausted at work and you want to go on a vacation.

If you say, “My goal is to go on vacation,” is that a SMART goal?

It isn’t, right? You don’t know when you will go on vacation, you don’t know where you will go, you don’t know anything. Then how can we make this goal SMART?

Once I complete the project, I will take my family with me in April and go on a 2-week trip to France and visit three cities in France.

Now, this goal is SMART, indeed. But before I can wish you a nice trip, I would like to mention a few important points.

Implementation of SMART goals

Once you have the right goals that are in line with your priorities, you should think about them in depth. Some goals – many goals – require small sub-goals to be achieved. Big goals can be challenging and require certain steps to be completed before they can be achieved. Compartmentalizing goals both motivates and promotes a greater sense of achievement. Plus, some enabling goals on the way to your goal – such as asking someone to help you – can help you reach your main goal much more quickly.

It is equally important to review and evaluate your goals as you move towards them. What did you do, how much? What was it that you couldn’t do? If you failed to reach your goal, what were the reasons behind it? What are some of the goals that you have achieved with ease, and what are some other goals that you would like to pursue in the future?

Accurately assessing your goals can also provide you with information about yourself and your environment that you may not have otherwise realized. Through these goals, you can explore your different needs. You can identify events and people who stand in the way of achieving your goals.

Aspiring high and rewarding goals that contribute to your life are essential for progress and for realizing the highest version of yourself. Identify them so that you can maintain progress in your life.

And as you continue on this path you walk through life, always celebrate your achievements, appreciate yourself, reward even your small steps and small successes. Have compassion for what you failed to achieve, find the root causes of failure and be flexible enough to set new goals. Embrace your goals and walk the path of life with dedication.

Competition and change are in every part of life. But your time and energy are limited. How would you like to use this time?

Hello My Companion,

With the first blog post of 2022, let’s have a little chat. I had been with you with these blog posts for a year.

Let’s do a situation analysis right after we enter the year 2022 with new decisions. Everyone has a story. You have a story, too. You have changed a lot because of what happened to you last year.

Everyone is changing, right?

So don’t judge anyone based on how you know them. You are not the same you, too. I have always been a companion for you in my posts so that you can see your own way, determine your path, find direction, and move forward with your inner motivation, and I am writing to you regarding the point we have reached in these passing days of the new year.

You can go back with intention and read my blog posts by choosing them to be a guide for the information, needing to be realized. Come on, let’s sit on a bench, rest and talk!

Until now, I asked you to take matters of your life seriously. I wanted for you to take responsibility for yourself and move forward towards success. I have always wanted you to move forward depending on yourself so that you can live your life to the fullest. I stood by you by saying, THE FUTURE STARTS TODAY, with all my knowledge and experience, so that you can make the most of it as much as possible.

The Future Starts Today

Now imagine a guest who wants to come to your house. Your house is a mess, and you are at a time when you are not ready to organize your house at all. This guest is a guest that you have been waiting for a long time, that you want to host and you cannot just say “you shouldn’t come“.

All of a sudden, quickly and rather sloppily, you are tidying up your house but you are not even prepared to welcome him, and you are not satisfied with anything. You say, “I am sorry, the house is a mess, but…“, it’s going to be a tense experience for the guest. The real issue starts after saying goodbye. “I wonder what he thought, did he see the dust in the window, I could see from his eyes, I am sure it was like this, or like that, I wish the he hadn’t gone to the bathroom…!”

What guest has life sent you in 2021?

What opportunities were you not ready for on the way to your dreams?

How did you let the surprise developments you wished for into your life?

What happened then?

What would you like to be different in this year of 2022?

How will you be ready this time?

How will you and your house be ready to welcome, host, and see off those guests you want so much?

Being ready for the expected guest, not the unexpected…

Please reconsider this past year you have experienced. The key to your entire journey is being grateful for your experiences. What did you experience during the year 2021? Focus on the core potential that exists in the present. You are on a journey where you are developing your individual talents in your own way. As long as you work in the right field for you, life is beside you with its opportunities!

Have you learned to focus on yourself without trying to be the gardener of other people’s gardens or interfering and saying “if you planted this in your garden, painted your hedges blue, this would look good on this garden, this one would look more elegant on this side, your flowers faded, …”? Did you get rid of these thoughts that you did not express but harbored in your mind?

Have you moved away from ideas that will create a crisis in the short or long term?

Have you noticed your strengths and transformed them to use?

Do you see your target with the arrow you will take your bow and shoot?

Did your hands tremble the first time you picked up your arrow for your conscious goals?

Have you experienced that state of panic?

Have you noticed the chances given to the source of your essence as you mastered your emotions?

Was Caesar’s credit given to Caesar?

Can you say, now I understand why I went through what I went through?
Has everything fallen into place?
When you start to interpret yourself, all the processes you experience become meaningful. You become a true strategist when you identify ways of self-realization, self-renewal, self-advancement, and uplifting yourself.

I want to remind you of something you know, my companion, how much of the flow can you control? Rest assured my companion, you can only control the amount, you cannot go beyond, and when you accept this fact, you discover to surrender to the flow, but to direct the flow. Let it flow a little, but strengthen yourself in the process.

Realize what kind of period you are in. The fights you have within yourself will not move you forward. The fights you have with others will not move you forward. Remember; facing the facts gives you a sense of victory, you start to feel stronger and better when you feel like you are being dragged into a disaster.

Are you ready to open yourself up to receive?

Life will always give you potatoes, but please don’t try to eat them raw. Decide what you will do with them. Maybe it doesn’t look like anything at first. You bite, and it’s sandy-starchy, a strange thing. “It is some -THING-!” but what you do with that thing and how you do it is up to you.

What to do with a potato?
How do to it?
Which one of these would you be happy to choose?

Make sure you want what you want with all your heart! If it stubbornly causes you to focus all your attention there, if you cannot focus your attention on anything else, if it keeps you from your own life, your own life path, from yourself, that’s not what you want in your heart. It’s just something you want with your mind. As I mentioned in the book The Future Starts Today, DO YOU KNOW YOUR MIND?

Does your mind really belong to you?

By focusing your peaceful, surrendering heart on the conditions, you can manage to throw those pebbles out of your mind. You can make your mind become more calm and serene.

Life opens the door of knowledge to the bee, and it builds its house out of honey.

Get the experience, get the material, and get on with the construction process! Do not miss the process when you are thinking about reaching the final end!

How do you get out of the existing process?
What does your inner voice tell you?
What you fear to kill or end are your patterns!
Events that you think belong to you are the walls of action you put yourself while trying to protect your wounds, trying to protect your resentment and brokenness, To these action walls, the ones you say “I am fine, I am not offended by you, everything is fine, there is no problem, it’s okay, no need for you, I will take care of this.” are included.

So, I am asking, why did you have to take care of what you said you would take care of?

What have you done for other people?

What have people done for you?

When did you take the wheel?

What happened, and when did you have to take the wheel?

How responsible will you feel for what?

Everyone’s pace is different.

What happened that you took back what you said about expressing yourself because you were afraid of being judged, marched to your own beat, and you sought to be accepted afterward?

In order to experience your own spiritual well-being, for you to say “ah! ” and move forward, are you ready to be reborn with the new year? When you run away from your mind saying, I will be ruled out, I will be excluded, I will miss that train, without being pushed over the edge of the cliff, get up and get back into action, arm in arm with coaching!

The time to stop and think is over!

You get out of that mindset of thinking about the dangers when you are safe, and striving to be safe when you are in danger!

The chaos you are in is teaching you to get out of there!

REALIZE!

What is the life you really desire?

What is the decision you need to make today for that life?

Deep awareness with the protection of coaching!

What does it look like to treat yourself with self-respect?

What would be the benefits of intimacy and sincerity in your relationship with yourself?

How do you realize what you need?

What would it be like if there was no need to make a distinction?

What is happening in your current relationship with yourself right now?

Self-appreciation…

When you realize that you care for yourself and you start living with a natural flow without feeling obligated, you begin to create POSSIBILITIES THAT INVOLVE YOURSELF. TRUST is trusting what you know.

It is the confidence that you can choose the right thing for yourself. It is being able to say, I trust that I can choose what is functional for myself. Making a choice does not have to be about someone else. By asking questions, you can invite yourself to choose yourself. Do you think that would be rewarding?

Making choices is not about throwing everyone out and then separating them from ourselves, it is about including ourselves and everyone else in a balanced way.

Because all the choices we make affect us and others. In fact, this is the area of covert responsibility that we often escape from. VULNERABILITY scares us. Yet, let’s imagine solely being there as we are, fully and honestly without having to hide anything, with no shame, no judgment of what we have, openly to others, allowing ourselves to be here and now, in freedom of vulnerability.

This freedom is the absence of barriers. It’s not trying to protect ourselves. However, in this vulnerability is the STRONGEST POTENTIAL OF AWARENESS. We are aware of everything that happens around us. Let us realize that we are buying the lie that we will suffer when we are vulnerable. What would happen if, instead, we bought the perspective that we suffer less as we simply exist in life without barriers?

SOMEONE LIKE A MARSHMALLOW…

Think of punching a soft marshmallow, even if someone tries to hurt you, you are fluffy as a marshmallow. How can you hurt a marshmallow, you simply cannot. And in life, when we stand without a barrier, what comes in just passes by, right? We can stand there with all our attention, and they would just pass by. Just imagine the freedom this will grant you with right now. What would I gain by allowing others’ choices and being aware of my own choices?

What do I say No to when I say Yes?

What do I say Yes to when I say No?

What are the things I allow and don’t allow?

What am I resisting?

What are the things I am reacting to?

Every time we try to resist and fight, we get tired. We are having our core energy stolen, and the thief is very pleased with himself. We are giving him what he wants without him making any effort. Instead of this situation, we can ask WHAT IS THE USE OF CHOOSING THIS?

After a research question that will provide us with awareness, “If I know this, I will be more aware, I know that you would not make a choice that will hurt me or anyone else. I would love to receive this information.“ When you had a statement like this, what would happen there?

You will find that it will be much different than blaming people and finding the fault in them. It also protects us from making a mistake in a choice that we can make automatically. By giving functional permission from this space of allowing, we essentially become like a rock in a stream. All thoughts, feelings, emotions, behaviors, beliefs, judgments, anything can come upon us, and when we are in this state of allowing, we become like a rock and they cannot do anything to us. They simply pass us by.

Now, write down at least 3 things you are grateful for, about yourself and the people with whom you experience a similar resistance. Please write this immediately without delay. You will gain awareness from which wonderful possibilities can arise, and above all, you will conserve your core energy. A person’s relationship with themselves allows them to wake up to their own reality.

How far have you been able to progress in your life on this subject, on which countless books have been written for centuries? Why did dozens of books not have the expected effect? Because none of the ideas were yours. The power that provides a permanent solution in the coaching approach is to enable you to reveal your ideas.

A relationship that can actually open up incredible possibilities is available when we are intimate with ourselves. If we can appreciate ourselves, if we have confidence in ourselves, if we are vulnerable with ourselves, whatever choices we make, we are permissive and grateful for ourselves rather than judgmental.

Being ourselves is truly a gift to the change that the world needs.

Being ourselves is not something bad and wrong as we have been told. Being ourselves is the only thing that will give us everything we desire in life!

Where was it that that being ourselves was labelled to be a mere mistake?

What is the value of not being ourselves and not looking at the universe with our own eyes?

What false value do we cling to?

If anything was possible right now, what would you want to change forever?

Where did you leave your own unparalleled happiness?

When did you give up your own joy?

What would it be like if you were permissive towards yourself, giving thanks for yourself instead of judging?

Be willing for balance here and now!

Here and now!

Breathe in the future!

Swim freely in the ocean of life with the protection of coaching and the breath of awareness in deep diving!

Your coach is with you whenever you need oxygen support!

You don’t have to hold your breath or use it sparingly!

Breathe out, let go of the past and fill your whole being with freshness now!

Fill your whole life!

Breathe in the love! All is well…

You can convince yourself that you are worthy of loving yourself! You can convince yourself to be in a flow of life that fits your plans!

You can convince yourself that you can build relationships without the belief of suffering!

You can convince yourself that you can be loved without the belief of being loved conditionally!

You can convince yourself to love without the belief of loving conditionally!

What would it be like to love and be loved without the belief of punishment?

What would it be like if we knew how to build relationships without the belief of deprivation?

What would it be like to live without secrecy?

What would it be like to know how to always be yourself?

Are you willing to experience these things for yourself?

You can be free from all past and future belief patterns that have not allowed you to live until now! You can hear and understand again where you are, the ‘value you see in yourself‘ in the person or people you love! If you really want to realize this, coaching is right next to you! A coaching session where you can let go of control is with you! Put your old plans aside and come, let’s plan a brand-new life together where you can be yourself!

IT’S POSSIBLE TO BE GLUTTED WITH YOURSELF!

Coaching Supervision and Continuous Professional Development

Coaching supervision is a professional collaboration between a supervisor and coach (or coaches), which allows the coach to reflect objectively about their coaching practice, through a dialogue which reveals both conscious and unconscious patterns in their client relationships.

The purpose of supervision in this context is to maximise the coach’s value to their client by raising the coach’s level of awareness and competence.

With a coaching supervisor the supervisee can:

Share their work in confidence

Receive guidance and feedback

Develop skills and identify further development needs

Let off steam

Acknowledge and understand feelings of disturbance/pleasure/failure etc

Feel valued and appreciated for their work

Ensure they are doing their best work for both the player and the client

Explore the balance of support and challenge that’s needed in the coach’s work, particularly in view of the organisational context

The Functions of Supervision

Inskipp and Proctor (1988) highlight three main processes in supervision in the helping professions. These are the Formative, Normative and Restorativeaspects, and apply equally to coaching as to traditional helping professions such as counselling and psychotherapy.

The Formative (Educative) aspect is about developing the supervisee’s skills and helping the supervisee to understand and appreciate their abilities. This aspect is usually a non-directive conversation to raise the supervisee’s awareness around their relationship with the player, their responses and interventions with the player and the interpersonal dynamics in the relationship, in order to explore further ways of working with the player to add more value.

The Normative (Managerial) aspect provides quality control, ensuring boundaries are being maintained and that the supervisee is undertaking their work to the highest ethical standards within the contract agreed with the player and client. This aspect is often more directive and can include feedback, advice, and direction from the supervisor.

The Restorative (Supportive) aspect allows the supervisee to take ‘pit-head’ time, as coal miners used to do, in which to figuratively ‘wash off the grime of working at the coal face’. This then creates a space for the supervisee to become aware of and to discuss any emotional baggage they may be carrying either consciously or unconsciously from player/client interventions, and preventing over-identification with the player/client system and understand any anxiety they have absorbed form the system. This aspect is generally more relevant in counselling and therapy, but should not be overlooked when supervising professional coaches.

Forms of supervision

Supervision can be:

1:1 expert supervisor to coach

In this model the supervisor is usually an experienced business coach who has received additional training in the supervision of coaches (although some coaching supervisors are therapists who may have less experience in business coaching). Typically a coaching supervisor will have at least 5-7 years’ experience as a business coach and some form of formal supervision qualification

1:1 peer coach to coach (co-supervision)

In this model, two coaches would supervise each other using a co-supervision model in which they had received some basic training from a more experienced coach or supervisor

Group (expert supervisor to group’s of coaches)

In this model, an expert coaching supervisor would run small group supervision sessions with 4-6 coaches attending. This approach lends itself to development as the supervision session can be run workshop-style to encourage group learning with a number of alternative ways of structuring the session

Duration and Frequency

Typically a 1:1 supervision session will last about an hour, while a group supervision session may last between two and three hours. The frequency of supervision will largely depend on the amount of coaching the coach is engaged with, or whether they have particular issues with specific clients or players. As a rule of thumb, every coach should have a minimum of four supervisions per year and this will increase to possibly 8-10 supervisions per year if the coach is undertaking significant coaching work. In organisations, group supervisions typically occur every 6-8 weeks, but again this can vary considerably according to the volume of coaching work being undertaken, the level and intensity of the coaching, and the organisational context.

Continuous Professional Development

It goes without saying that CPD, of which supervision is a part, is essential for the professional coach and anyone coaching regularly in organisations. Whilst supervision will have a focus on specific players and client systems, broader CPD will inform the coach of developments in their professional field, give them a wider perspective of their practice, help them keep abreast of emerging new themes and thinking in coaching, and encourage them to contribute to debate and discussion through conferences, seminars and coaching networks, both real and virtual. Many clients who are considering employing a coach will expect clear evidence that the coach is in regular supervision for their practice and that they have a recent track record of attending CPD events, so it makes sense at both a professional and a personal level to keep your CPD up to scratch.

There are no uncoachable clients, only unclientable coaches.

In the case of a coach and client, this context is even more confusing, since there could be multiple interpretations of what the client expectations are, the coaching outcome is, and where the responsibility of the coach lies. Till a few years ago, professional coaching ethics of some schools maintained that the coach is not responsible for the outcome, and the client is; that the coach is only responsible for the process. Some coaches may still believe that to be true. From a deeply spiritual philosophical perspective, I can see the truth in this. However, at the practical level of contracting, it makes no sense to say that one who does the work and gets paid for it is not responsible for the scope and quality of the committed outcome.

What is true is that no coach can coerce a client to an outcome. The client needs to desire that outcome and be motivated and committed to working towards that outcome. In a normal coach-client interaction when the clients seek a coach out and pay for the service, generally this situation should not result. To the best of my knowledge in such cases it is usually the client who finds the coach inadequate and may complain.

Where this situation seems to occur and has been documented by several coaches and expressed in coaching supervision is when corporate sponsors decide to provide coaching to their executive leaders to shift their behavior, some of who may have no desire to change the way they behave. The client has no desired outcome, even if the sponsor has, which the coach believes that he/she has been contracted for. This does not make the client uncoachable. It makes the sponsor irresponsible, and the coach not willing to face up to the sponsor.

There are multiple ways of handling the myth of uncoachable client syndrome.

Always, but always, there should be an unambiguous three-way contract between the sponsor, the client, and the coach as to what the sponsor and the client agree that the client should be coached on. The likelihood of a senior leader client disputing this is slim. If that does happen, the coach has recourse to refer the sponsor and client to that contract. As this has been said many times, ‘always be contracting’, is the ABC of coaching.

There is a possibility that the client may change the outcome that he/she has agreed to in the contract, or this can shift as coaching proceeds. Most coaches I know would accommodate the client, and would possibly request that the client communicates this at the stakeholder feedback sessions. To some coaches, the sponsor may represent the client and not the leader being coached. In such cases, it may need to be clearly discussed and agreed at the contracting level as to whose interests the coach would work towards and whose confidentiality the coach would protect. In my own case, I always specify that my accountability is to the person I coach, not the sponsor.

There is a possibility that the client may find it difficult to work towards the outcome that he/she agreed to. The client may not be ready, and there may be other issues that the client faces that need to be resolved more urgently before the contracted outcome can be addressed. Many of us face such situations and work with the client to make that happen.

The core issue here is the client-centricity of unconditional positive regard, empathy, and congruence that should be the key ethical outlook of coaches. The client does have the answers. It is for the coach to help unravel them. Blaming the client as uncoachable is not coaching behavior.

[:en]Gestalt Coaching does not label or view a client as fraught with dysfunctions. Instead, Gestalt Coaches engage the client in a process that guides them to the realization that all their experiences, both healthy and less than healthy, are reactions in response to the world around them.

The coach gives clients a variety of creative life “experiments” where the client explores their personal life “operating system” they are currently using.

Gestalt Coaching is About Awareness

Gestalt Coaching encourages the client to acknowledge all “operating systems” within them fully and explores where these systems “took root “in their life. Once the client is aware of these systems, choosing what to hold onto and what to abandon is up to them. Through an “experiential process,” this awareness clears up residue from their past encounters and interactions. As a result, the client gains a sense of peace and is free to be who they really are, selecting behaviors that enhance their lives, rather than remaining at the mercy of their engrained automatic reactions.

Move Beyond an Intellectual Understanding

Just as Gestalt Coaching does not label or diagnose, it also does not seek an “intellectual understanding” of self. Instead, the coach supports a client in fully experiencing themselves, with the assumption that the client has “inherent wisdom” that might be outside of their present awareness. Because Gestalt Coaching is experiential and not a form of “talk therapy,” many clients experience positive and permanent change.

Respond Rather Than React

The coaching process shifts the client’s interactions in their world from being “reactive” to “responsive.” When we respond from an aware, whole, and fully-present place, we achieve clarity. However, when we react from a place of “reactivity”, our interaction with others and the world often leads to regret.

Transactional Analysis by Late Eric Berne is a theory of communication while working on one’s personality and systems to add immense value to the coaching practice. One of the major areas of coaching and working with clients is the ability to bring a change by empowering clients to make life-changing decisions. One’s coaching practice may involve the use of many methodologies to enhance and initiate this change.

Transactional Analysis by Late Eric Berne is a theory of communication while working on one’s personality and systems to add immense value to the coaching practice. Earlier, this was an inherent part of psychotherapy. In the recent times, TA has become an essential practice for coaching. This globally recognized TA model gives an in-depth understanding of the way people are structured psychologically giving coaches multiple opportunities to understand the learning styles of clients, their thinking process, and partnering with them for change. A common point in TA and coaching practice is the philosophy of open communication and contracting. The clarity of the goal and communication work towards increasing the client’s potency towards the desired outcome.

A coach can bring rapid changes in the client with the use of the Transactional Analysis model to work on beliefs, behavior patterns, values, learning styles, and more. Here, I will outline 5 highlights of the TA model that is beneficial to your coaching practice.

1. The PAC Model

Transactional Analysis defines 3 Ego-states from where humans operate. Eric Berne had defined it as, “Ego-state is a consistent pattern of feeling and experience directly related to a corresponding consistent pattern of behavior.” We define our actions and feelings based on what we have experienced and often repeat the same patterns. Let’s understand the Parent-Adult-Child (PAC) further.

Parent Ego-state

One may emulate things as observed and absorbed from their parents or caregivers. The Parent ego-state is thus all about what one copies from them. A client may retain injunctions such as, “Don’t do this, it’s not good for you” or, “Always remember to do this.” These voices in the form of “Don’t”, “Always remember,” “Never forget” controls a person.

Child Ego-state

A client may replay behaviors, thoughts, and feelings that are connected with childhood behavior. A person who tends to sulk when things go difficult is said to be in the Child state. He/she may be replaying the same behavior as per habit of the earlier days.

Adult Ego-state

A person in this ego-state is said to act in the here and now. These are responses that are connected directly with the ability to make own decisions without being influenced by the Parent or Child ego-state.

A coach with a firm grip over the PAC model understands how clients communicate from different ego-states. A coach also knows when ego-states are crossed and where conflicts can arise. Coaches are able to identify if the client is rooted in the past (Parent or Child) or has the ability to make decisions in the present (Adult). The coach can explore a client’s struggle by observing behavior patterns, culture and system, identity, and the client’s ability to take action. A coach uses effective listening skills to know how a client uses certain strategies to tackle problems. A coach develops the knowledge to use competencies such as powerful questioning to move the client forward and bring attention to the here and now. The coach thus evokes self-awareness in the client.

2. Importance of building a Positive Stroke Economy

Eric Berne defined Strokes as the “fundamental unit of social action.” Strokes are something everybody needs. The internal hunger in all to connect and be stimulated (physically and mentally) is a part of humans from the time of birth.

Strokes are classified as:

Verbal or Non-Verbal

Positive or Negative

Conditional or Unconditional

The understanding of strokes is important for coaches to be highly skillful at their practice. A coach having the awareness of strokes develops the knack of observing verbal and nonverbal communication while being alert to the text and subtext. A coach is attentive to observe what motivates the client, what are the needs, and what area of assistance is the client looking for in life. The use of positive stroking helps the coach to acknowledge the client space while taking permission prior to getting into a deeper level with the client’s issues. A coach is also aware of the client’s style of taking strokes and can work accordingly to cultivate trust and safety, one of the prime core competencies for the coaching practice. A coach facilitates client growth while offering greater confidentiality.

3. Transactions and the Communication Process

A transaction happens between two or more people when communication is offered between them. Eric Berne defined the opening as the ‘stimulus’ and the reply as the ‘response’. A conversation that happens between two or more people is defined as a transaction. TA gives coaches the power to observe the transaction along with the ego-state model to understand the process of communication (client-coach). Transactions that happen between two people can be between different ego-states. Transactions can also be crossed, ulterior, or complementary. The knowledge of this allows coaches to deliver impactful coaching sessions. Coaches are enabled to read between the sentences and discover hidden meanings (ulterior transactions). A coach can reflect on communication style with knowledge of transactions, and use it to empower the client. Building rapport helps coaches create trust and safety with complete transparency with the client. Coaches become mindful about listening actively while evoking awareness and moving towards client growth.

A coach can thus observe the transactions between coach-client, as well as the client’s journey to get a deeper understanding of the client’s situation. The coach can improve methods of communication by bringing a shift in ego-states and also unearth deeper messages by using the power of the TA model.

4. Transference and Countertransference

Often, in the client-coaching journey, one may face hostile behavior (by the client). Or, the client may display reluctance towards certain things and this happens subtly, not in conscious awareness. Transference happens when a person relates the current behavior of the person to a person known from the past. Countertransference defines a counselor, therapist or a coach’s reaction to his or her own client’s transference. A coach may relate the situation to a person or a situation from his/her own memory.

The TA model gives coaches the benefit of being able to retain middle ground while coaching without any bias. This is extremely beneficial for the coach supervision process. Any coaching practice that includes transference often obstructs the sessions as the relational space changes due to transference and countertransference. A coach thus learns to attend to the client’s transference patterns from the beginning of coaching practice to pick up cues and spot the feelings that lie beneath a client’s space. It makes the coach aware of one’s internal processes, the filters they hold, the biases they have, and how one can be alert to be client-centric in the coaching session. A coach can observe if the client is not working towards the goal and if transference is one of the issues here. A coach thus needs to explore this client-coaching relationship bearing this in mind. Coaches who are aware of countertransference will find the knowledge of TA beneficial to identify it while moving towards coach supervision after 10-15 hours of practice. This expands one’s own filters, prejudices, thinking, and actions.

5. Games

A client may create repeated results in life. These may create stress and unhappiness with a lack of focus on goals. Eric Berne defines psychological games as the one people play without being consciously aware of the process. A coach presented with this problem learns to identify the pattern of Games which are repetitive in nature. There are many things that happen at a psychological and social level. The understanding of Games gives a coach the opportunity to view the situation at hand and partner with the client to install new habits. The coach raises awareness of the client to observe his/her own patterns of behavior. A client who develops this awareness is able to rectify behavior patterns and stop the repeated results. A coach explores inner beliefs, values, and emotions and is alert to the sessions to observe client progress. A coach may also challenge the client by identifying the pattern emerging and moving the client towards the creation of new thought processes that are aligned with vision and goals. The coach demonstrates an ethical practice by being sensitive to the clients’ identity and beliefs.

You literally create your own life.

To become successful, it is important to realize what success really is. Success is the progressive realization of a worthy deal. But you need to have a pre-determined goal, and know where you are going.

And it takes courage to progress. The opposite of courage in our society is not cowardness, but conformity. People are acting like everyone else.

And the problem is that people don’t know why they conform, and they believe their lives are shaped by circumstances.

Yesterday I heard someone say that the road to success is always under construction.

Life is meant to be abundant. Your greatness is waiting!

Think about this….19 out of 20 people do not know why they wake up in the morning to go to work. They do it because everyone else is doing it.

Now, the key to success or failure is……..we become what we think about. We become what we think about all day long.

So, you can alter your life by altering your attitude of mind.

Wish to be good, you will be good. Believe it.

Thinking in negative terms will bring you negative results.

Thinking in positive terms will bring you positive results.

Believe and succeed.

Look for the circumstances you want, and if you cannot find it, make the circumstances you want.

Each one of us want something and each one of us is afraid of something. Write down what it is that you want and carry it with you. And stop thinking about what it is that you fear.

Remember – Ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you.

ALL YOU NEED IS A PURPOSE AND FAITH.

Always act as thought it were impossible to fail. Nothing has ever been accomplished without inspiration.

Always keep calm and cheerful and don’t let petty things get you off your course.

We reap what we sow, and therefore think about what you sow. Negative thoughts or positive thoughts. Think about this really hard.

Success is not the result of making money, making money is the result of success. So remember to put the fuel before you can expect the heat. Give the service before you can expect the money.

Give your service, build, work, dream (yes dream, we forget so often to do that), and create, and you will find unlimited abundance will come to you.

Something very important, prosperity is founded upon a law of mutual exchange. No man can enrich himself unless he enriches others.

To conclude:

1) Set yourself a definite goal.

2) Stop running yourself down.

3) Stop thinking about all the reasons why you cannot be successful and start to think of all the reasons why you can be successful.

4) Trace your attitudes back through your childhood and try discover where you first got the idea that you couldn’t be successful.

5) Change the image you have of yourself by writing out a description of the person you would like to be.

6) Act the part of the successful person you have decided to become.
